Calm colours to enjoy during a frantic period of time. The past five days seemed rather long…almost without end…an endurance trial…(alright, so I’m exaggerating!)
A very short post this week – if this got published and you’re reading it, I must have somehow made it to the end of term! Most of the time I enjoy my job and the students I teach, but the final week before winter break has never been in my top ten of fun times. If you are lucky enough to be involved in education, then you understand. If you don’t, trust me, for this week only, you’re lucky enough not to be involved in education!
Our plan to prepare for the week was to spend last weekend in Yoho, chilling in a little cabin and taking a hike around beautiful Emerald Lake. Yes, again, and why not?! It’s different every time, and last week was no exception. The temperature climbed to a reasonable -12C, and that was good enough to layer up and get out.
The freshest air, the squeaky snow underfoot, the astonishing silence when we stood still, and the silver, blue and grey of the landscapes all combined to make a memorable hike. It was just enough to keep an old PlaidCamper mentally charged and ready to face the week. Phew! Thank you, Emerald Lake. Natural magic, and we might have to head back out there soon…

Yup, for that last surreal week in the schools, what an image to behold, what clarity in silver blue and grey, what natural beauty to shoot for and attain. Congratulations! For the work you’ve accomplished and, I’m sure, for what you’ll enjoy over this long transitional season, these special times.

Thanks, Walt. We are having a slow week this week, with a few movies, catch up on reading, see local friends and family, spend some time in the kitchen, and then out to a quiet cabin at the end of the week, armed with a few more good books and seasonal beers.
I hope all is as well as can be with you, and peaceful enough.

Love this place!! I remember so fondly when we first went there in winter. Hiking around the lake we came to the marshy delta area where you are surrounded by mountains. As we stood there in awe, avalanche after avalanche fell off those slopes into the dip between us and their cliffs. They sounded like thunder and made the most impressive curtains of snow. It was such an incredible moment. Such a beautiful place. And the snow was so deep that our 6′ talk son stepped off the trail and sunk up to his chest! It was such fun. I hope to get there again this year to snowshoe.

getting back to Nature has always & will always be the best medicine for a stressed soul! You got it figured out Adam! I spent the last week out at the cabin.Just me & the Trumpeters.They were a quiet lot this time around.

Sounds like an enjoyable place to recharge. The more I hear about Yoho, the more I’d like to check it out. My brother’s actually out there right now with his family enjoying a couple of days of winter camping.

Oh how I enjoyed this serene walk through the woods, your descriptions and photos so transforming, pc. Squeaky snow describes it perfectly. I am not a fan of snow and cold, but I find fresh snow so pristinely beautiful — so this was perfect for me–I’m still warm. Looks like the perfect antidote for the grinding last week of teaching term — congratulations, you made it through again!

Glad you could get a cold and snowy fix and still be warm! We’re hoping to hike/snowshoe over the coming days. The snow has been falling for hours here in the city, but apparently not so much near Louise. It’ll still be pretty, and quiet!
