Farewell…

…to 2016, and here’s to a bright 2017!

Time to let the sun set on 2016

We’re really really hoping 2017 is a huge improvement over 2016 – not personally, as everything was pretty groovy, from taking trips and meeting friends and family all over, to finding quiet times at campgrounds and cabins. No, we’re hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself, and that, politically and socially speaking, folks around the world find it in themselves to be kinder and more thoughtful towards each other.

Looking ahead, it all seems pretty good…

Globally, seems like we’ve reached the bottom of the barrel, and maybe now it’s time to head back up and take a breath of fresh air. After all, can’t we agree it was rather unpleasant down there? Let’s see if we can do better…

Perhaps 2017 will be less spiky…

Anyway, we wish you all a happy and healthy 2017, full of fun times with friends and family, and plenty of opportunities to be outdoors and enjoying the natural world.dscn7376

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

    1. Awesome photo of the train track into the new year, Adam. Yes, let’s all hope for a better year politically and economically because, well, there’s a hellbound train comin’ from the other direction and we’d all do well to step off the track for now and let it rip by. Let’s all strive for peace and a more balanced environment for man, woman, and those creatures that support us by simply being here. Thanks for a great year of OldPlaidCamper, and all the best for 2017!

      1. Thanks, Walt! That hellbound train is going to be one of those long ones, might seem like more than four years as it passes by. I feel certain it’ll be loud, pulled along by an out of date engine that’ll run out of steam long before it reaches a destination (not that there will be an end in mind), and many passengers will regret they ever decided to get on board…
In the meantime, here’s to hopes of a brighter future, that we won’t be too dishevelled in the windy wake of that train, and that the glorious outdoors is where you’ll find yourself come what may!

  1. Beautiful pictures. I’m looking forward to seeing what the coming year has to offer. Hidden in all the turmoil and craziness of 2016 was a rather good year. I’m cautiously optimistic that 2017 will be even better and, if we’re really lucky, it’ll be turmoil and craziness free.

    1. Thanks, Douglas! Yeah, at the small level, the past year was pretty good. As you say, here’s hoping 2017 is a good one, turmoil free and more civil…
All the best to you and yours!

    1. Happy New Year!
Taking that rail track photo was interesting – balancing between the rails and ties in snowshoes, crouching down without a wobble, and hoping a train wouldn’t come along! To be honest, the trains are loud and slow freight trains, and it is a long, straight section of track. Be some headline – man hit by very slow train…
      All the best for 2017!
