In defence of grey…

Grey can get a bad rap. Colourless, dreary, my hair when it was there. Really – and you might think I’m biased being a bit of an old greybeard – as we slowly transition (up here, anyway) from winter to spring, grey is pretty cool. I know we can get impatient this time of year for some bright colour, but let’s show some appreciation for grey…

Pretty grey, and pretty cool.
I’ll keep it very brief – when you’re getting a little grey, focus can be a problem – and post a few grey pictures from our short west coast trip last week.

Island grey
We spent most of our time in Ucluelet and Tofino, and the beaches between. The sun was sometimes out (perhaps I’ll post colourful pictures next week as a contrast?), but even when clouds and rain rolled in, the views were lovely. Or so we thought.

Maritime grey?
A few days unwinding on the wild side of Vancouver Island was just what the doctor ordered. Dr. PlaidCamper knows what is necessary to keep a grey PlaidCamper right in his head – get him out of the city, if only for a short while. And an old PlaidCamper knows he should listen and take his medicine.

Adventurous grey! Better than medicine…
Grey is cool. It’s the new not quite black, and oddly perfect for restoring positive mental health. What do you think, is a little grey really so bad? Probably not…

Soothing grey?
Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful weekend, whatever the colour!

Moody grey (quite a good mood!)

What’s with this guy and all the grey? Look at me strut – black is the new grey…

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

      1. I would abandon all principles and vote for any politician promising a mandatory four day working week! (Well, I probably wouldn’t abandon all principles, but after some Mondays, I’d be tempted…)

  1. A fantastic set of grays here, pc. Interesting how the small amount of color (like the red or orange on the boats or the boathouse) is set off so nicely by the surrounding grays. I’m in the middle of a dull house project replacing carpeting, and guess what color we chose: gray. Great post, my friend — as always~~

    1. So long as you like the carpet at the end of the project! That made me smile. Carpet or coast, there’s a place for grey!
I hope you got out on your wildflower walk, and found splashes of colour…
Thanks, Jet, and have a wonderful week!

    1. Oh yes, I always listen to Dr. PC!
We enjoyed finding all the different greys, and the way it helped other colours to jump out – and I guess your artist eyes often see that.
Thanks, Margaret, and I hope your week is off to a fine start!

  2. Thank you, Louise, and I’m glad you enjoyed the photographs. I like to mess around with the camera and point and shoot – and places like the west coast seem to deliver results even if it’s a fingers crossed sort of approach! Good thing it’s digital, not film…
Thanks again, and have a great week!

  3. Grey does have its perks. There is something to be said for those grey stormy days. I think that you captured some of it’s best sides. Have great week!

  4. I couldn’t agree more with this post. Today I went up to the Cascades and it was gray, dreary, and very misty. Reminded me of Silent Hill. There is something so beautiful about going home
