Falling…

…levels of optimism, mostly brought on by paying too much attention to the ever alarming news cycles. Not helped by feeling somewhat under the weather, and being holed up indoors reading, you’ve guessed it, too much news. Toddler tantrum fuelled drama, enabled by spineless, dollar-chasing, power-grabbing, conscience-free “leaders” apparently willing to play along and play with lives. Anyway, let’s not get into that.

Driven to (a welcome) fall distraction

In an attempt to be positive, I thought I’d post a few pictures of pleasant days we’ve enjoyed in the past few fall weeks. Then, it’s more like falling for fall than falling into a grey gloom and grump. Let’s leap into a free fall of positive thoughts.

A misty start and barely a ripple. Calm…

We’ve had misty starts, sunny afternoons, and heavy rain, sometimes all in one day. The past few days have seen some of our heaviest rains since early spring, and that’s a good thing.

Good things on a sunny morning. Peace…

The positive power of time spent outdoors rarely fails to raise spirits, even if I’m struggling somewhat, puffing and panting to keep up with Scout. I like to think she’s a sympathetic soul, but slowing down to accommodate the ageing is not yet part of her make up.

“Yeah, yeah, stop grumbling and let’s go, you old grump!”
Positive

A very brief post this week, and I promise that as soon as this one is written, I’ll be avoiding the siren call of the news, and heading out – slowly – in search of happy thoughts, and to see if the recent rounds of wind and rain have whipped up some waves down by the lighthouse. If they have, I’ll come back and add a picture (or two) if I can get a good one (or two…)

From last night, a few early season storm waves

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Big sky, genuine drama, tantrum free. Happy thoughts…

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

  1. Wonderful photos of the changing season, pc. I like the colorful leaves, beautiful light, misty water, and surging waves, excellent lighthouse. Everything keeps changing, and so will the political scene. Thanks for presenting your positive moments. I hope your weekend is fantastic.

  2. Beautiful photos! Happy thoughts indeed! I will be going to go paint shortly to make my own happy thoughts environment, at least for now. Just a thought (concerning the toddler) I was told by a therapist that the big man in the wh is a malignant narcissist. I am believing that more and more as I watch the news. Okay back to happy thoughts! Hang in there! Have a wonderful weekend ♥️

  3. It’s a mad, mad world of politics & greed around here, and it can certainly be a downer for us. Thanks for pointing out that it’s often wise for us to follow our canine (thanks Scout!) and animal instincts into happier & saner realms, as reflected in those beautiful photos.

    1. Haha, yes, I’m going to follow Scout and let her be my political guide – she’s better than many in that game… I’m somewhat thankful it appears Canadians as a whole have chosen to avoid a drift (further) to the right, if the exit polls are reliable.
      Have a great week!

  4. I hope you’re feeling better and since you’re under the weather, I’m going to try and remain calm and not add any stress since there is really no way to adequately express a reaction to what is unfolding. Looking at that gorgeous reflection on your Jeep and that calm, misty scene is distracting me from a minor rant about the depressing news cycles and politics (so wish our next election was over tomorrow like yours), Tottenham incapable of getting out of the weekend with a win and Man United coming so close to a win. I still haven’t adjusted to being excited about all the ties in soccer. Time to look at another one of your peaceful photos, love the lighthouse shot, before I get carried away. Had a chance to check out big waves by a lighthouse last week and hope the good vibes returned while you were enjoying the weekend, waves and an Everton win!

    1. Thank you! Definitely feeling better, no doubt helped by an Everton win, and England defeating Australia in the rugby. They play NZ All Blacks next weekend, and that’ll be some game…
As for the politics, oh dear. I take comfort in being a neighbour and not a citizen when I look at the situation you have there. It’s depressing, but I’m not stuck inside so much and have cut down on my news intake and that works! Also, the exit polls up here today are predicting a less gloomy outcome than my worst fears, so I’ll have to be happy with that.
Man Utd showed a bit of spirit – now Spurs need to get sorted!
Have a great week, and I hope you get to visit with those young squirrels again!

  5. A “siren call” – it is that. Professional pot-stirrers, that what most of the media is, bent on fomenting divisiveness and unrest to keep us watching. Not that the unadulterated news isn’t disturbing enough on its own. The natural world is a panacea to the crap, as you well know. Enjoy the fall’s late gifts, Adam!

    1. Bob, I’ve done better the past few days with ignoring the siren call, and feeling better have been out and about with Scout enjoying the natural world, heavy rain and all!
Thanks, and I hope you have a great week!

    1. Jane, I’m delighted to hear you had a great weekend enjoying friends and nature – definitely a better way to spend time than moping about the news!

  6. Thank you for your quiet and serene nature photos, Adam. I share your anxieties about the news and I find that I must compartmentalize and try not to listen too much. It’s too upsetting.

    1. Thanks, Jane! Usually, I try and avoid getting sucked in by the news, but failed at that the past week or so – I think it was the thought that this time we’ve reached the bottom of the barrel, only to discover there are yet more murky depths to which this man will descend. Oh dear.
Having said all that, I’ve managed to get off my “man flu” death bed, and head out now that I’m feeling better, and the peace and quiet of the natural world has worked wonders once again.
      Have a great week!
