A tangle

A tangle? A muddle? The Gordian knot? I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping this coming Tuesday reveals the beginning of the end of the current mess we’re in. No speedy solutions are available, but a few steps on the path to some sort of recovery would be nice.

A tangle

We spent last weekend far, far away from being able to access news coverage. We bobbed about on the (mercifully calm) water. Part of the weekend was designed as an opportunity for me to be at the helm, getting some wheel time, and remembering some of the things we were taught on our boat course last year. It was good to finally have a chance to put things into practice. If docking is a controlled crash, emphasis on crash, then I’ve mastered it. It was an aluminum boat, all good.

“Who’s steering in there?” Note the glum PlaidCamper expression, as he contemplates the worst for next Tuesday. No, surely not?

We pulled up to an old US Army barge, and leapt aboard to examine the piled up treasures. An abandoned boat, fishing nets, old tarps, holed floats, assorted girders and planks, a wood burning stove, and rope. So much rope. Bear scat too, so an inquisitive bruin must have decided to swim out and see if there was anything good to eat? Didn’t seem to be anything obviously tasty. Nothing left over by the bears. Waste not.

Abandoned

A short piece this week as I gird myself for Tuesday evening – I’m planning on watching/reading/listening to as many reports as possible (I know, I know, not good, but I won’t be able to resist), hoping and hoping that this particular political nightmare is coming to an end. Even though it will be a school night, and way past my bedtime, I’m going to have a beer, either in celebration or commiseration. Fingers crossed the four year uncontrolled crash is almost over, and we can pick ourselves up, mentally speaking, untangle the confusion, and look forward to better days ahead.

Well, this needs sorting! (Nicely docked aluminum boat to the side there. Controlled, I’d say…)

  2. Again, great photos, Adam, tangles & all. I hope this nightmare gets untangled by Tuesday or shortly thereafter but, man, it’s a nail-biter. Hopefully we can raise one in celebration, rather than commiseration.

  3. Oh Tuesday, southside…got it. At first I thought you were talking about the provincial election. I will be listening too, one way or another, at least enough to check in. The tangle of ropes looks nice in a photo but does need to be picked up. I love the shapes of the hills in the distance. I do a check on the old place today then can fully focus on my new home. Yahoo!

    1. Yes, south side…my brother lives there, and it is an anxious time for him, and his fellow citizens.
      That dock was a messy treasure trove in need of tidying – and scavenging!

  4. A great post, PC, as usual. Probably best not to have rope lying around in the States, because everyone is so uptight we might all strangle one another. Fortunately my voting experience was easy and smooth. And fortunately there are plenty of troopers whose experience was not easy, but they endured it anyway. Next week I’ll hold up a virtual toast to you…we hope.
    Really liked the photo of you and Scout at the helm, and the final photo shows the boat definitely safely moored. Here’s to safe mooring, my friend.

Perfect tangled mess theme and photos for the week and I will be joining you with the endless news coverage and at this point I’m thinking it’s going to be necessary to keep that wine glass half full for the next few days. I hope I don’t start one of those drinking games where every time they show him on the news and I hear another lie that I have to take another drink because I don’t believe I would have enough wine to make it through Monday morning. It’s been four years of thinking each day that it can’t get any worse than this and yet it does. Our state and country are setting record COVID-19 highs every day as he jokes about it on the campaign trail and I cannot believe what he has done to our election process this year or the thought that cities are boarding up their stores and businesses in preparation. Scout looks a little concerned in that wonderful photo, but let’s hope that glum outlook ends up only being about another dent in the boat and not our future. We can only hope the worse loss of this week was Everton and I have wine left to celebrate on Tuesday night!

And it’s the coarseness and lies that stick in the craw, the idea someone who doesn’t agree is automatically an enemy or other. Please let that be over, starting tomorrow…
      Everton? Oh dear. Seriously starting to calculate points needed to avoid relegation! Gareth Bale back at Spurs and scoring? It’s looking good for old Moan-rinho!

    Biden will win but you just know Trump is going to be crying for years over this! He’s whipped up his minion and has unleashed them apoun us!

      1. remember, just because the big bad wolf has been forced off the property doesn’t mean it’s still not lurking!
        Meaning Trump and his violent minion are not going to go away! Strife, violence and turmoil will still prevail.
