Still, as you’re here, you’re maybe wondering – bank business? Here’s my not so high financial advice: if you’ve got a few dollars and some spare time, invest it in a visit to Crew Collective Cafe in Montreal. Situated in an old bank building, it’s an absolute delight. You won’t make money but the returns will be of a different nature. There’s hardly a ceiling on your investment if you like an ornate ceiling, decent pastries and good coffee. The people watching and caffeine bustle are excellent bonuses.
Oh, you do want some sound financial advice? Ok, this is all I really know. It isn’t easy, but I was once told if you spend less than you earn, you’ll likely be fine overall. Doubtless we can all think of many caveats to that, but, generally, it works for me – small print bit – I can’t guarantee it will work for you.
The other piece of advice is something I heard an education colleague share with a group of boys who were admiring (and astonished that the colleague owned) a shiny classic vehicle. His response when asked by one youth how he could afford such a vehicle? “It’s called a budget, boys!”
Enough! I can’t help you amass a huge fortune but I can say there’s wealth of a more enjoyable kind to be found in a decent cup of coffee, good company and a great location.

I would love to go to that cafe for the ambiance, the coffee, the treats and the people-watching. Your mention of a budget, that is such simple advice, but it works. That is a hot topic to me, as a couple of organizations I belong to are WAY over budget. I decided in one organization that was tens of thousands in the red to not put a penny toward fixing that mess but I do remember at a previous business meeting strongly suggesting that they keep within budget. There is a real trend of assuming the members will “kick-in” the extra money. No, make a budget and stick to it!

Here I was virtually enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee with lovely art and a delicious croissant while admiring the fabulous location and appreciating the sound financial advice and then I encountered that awful word that I don’t say out loud or want to type (budget)!!😁 No way I’m assigning (or confessing) an amount to those essential categories of coffee/wine, sports streaming services, books/movies, Harper’s toys…To get my mind off the topic, what was the classic car?!?! Oh yes, I’m great at handing out the advice – but following it myself? Not always…
I don’t know too much about old (or new!) Mercedes, but I’m going to say it was a 1980s SEL. More recently, he’s had an early 90s BMW. Not old old, but still qualifies as a classic if it is older than 25 years? He likes vehicles with as few electronics as possible, the pre-plug in for diagnostics era.
