Shelter

In between work locations last Friday, I opted to take my coffee down to the lighthouse and check out the waves.

Wave check

It was a wild and windy day, with the rain blowing in sideways, and I had to shelter under a sturdy tree to steady myself and snap a few pictures before giving up and simply enjoying it all.

A good place

Above, two tough gulls were braving the elements. One swooped down below the rocks and out of sight, and the other seemed to be hanging still in the face of the wind. I think it was testing itself, like a kayaker riding a wave crest and appearing to be fixed in place. What a sight, what a gull!

We did finally get a dry day yesterday, and it was good to step outside and feel some sun on our faces. It was also nice to get home after a walk with Scout and not have to find a towel from our dwindling supply to dry her off. Looking ahead, it seems we’re in for a cold snap – cold for the coast, anyway – so we’ll be hoping for a dusting of snow on the hilltops, and to do some brisk hiking before heading home for a well deserved glass of something good…

    1. Thanks, Jet! Glad you enjoyed this blustery turn – next up, we appear to be getting rather more snow than we thought was forecast… should be an interesting couple of days ahead!

  2. Wow, that is windy! Quite the adventure to grab hold of trees or rocks to keep from blowing away. Stay warm. Here in Edmonton we are getting snow and deep freeze -20, 30 and 40, so I am not venturing far from home. Have a coffee and a book…

    1. Thanks, Bob! Keeping warm, and this little patch of west coast is quite excited about the snow we’ll be getting in the next couple of days. It won’t stick for long, but the kids will make the most of what there is!

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful waves and photos after a week of wave envy after missing last weekend’s big waves on the Great Lakes and reading about waves topping 20 feet along Lake Michigan in Chicago yesterday! We actually had kayakers out yesterday in some of the areas that flooded, but during this time of year I still prefer to see only birds out on the water. Being curious, I had to look up that beer label and loved their description “it’s a close encounter of the thirst kind.” You may have to stock up on some Mtn Dew now that you’re enjoying citrus beverages! Hope you enjoyed the sun and snow this weekend and after a very dreary weather weekend, thanks for the waves and laugh over “hoppy to see you!”

    1. Thank you! Yikes, kayaking in flood waters in winter – not for me…
      Our weekend was very blustery, with a hint of snow, but we are meant to be getting a decent snowfall in the next couple of days. Should be fun for the kids, less so for drivers out here – not very used to it!
      Not sure about Mtn Dew, but I will persist with hoppy citrus beverages!
