Damp daze

I received a WP notification the other day stating I’ve been blogging here for six years. Six years?! Who knew I’d be able to write a weekly post about going for a walk and keep that up for so long? Admittedly padded with the appearance of a beer photo or two along the way…

Damp

Well, here’s another one about going for a walk. We went to Florencia Bay earlier this week, a planned day off from work when the forecast noted it would be a sunny day. The forecast was wrong, and instead, we had a rainy walk, negotiating muddy puddles from the parking lot to the rickety wooden stairs leading down to the bay. Scout helpfully ignored my pleas to slow down as we descended the slippery rickety wooden stairs. When we got to the bottom, I looked back up, thinking how much I was looking forward to ascending the wobbly, slippery, rickety wooden stairs. No padding this week.

“You can’t get up here, can you, OldPlaidCamper?” Nope.

The rain didn’t ease. If anything, it fell more heavily and at just the right wind blown angle to get under a jacket hood and top up our coffee. From a hot espresso to a lukewarm Americano.

There was a (fool?) hardy surfer pretty far out, enjoying the pretty big waves. They had a companion spotter on the shore, but still. Braver than me. These were the only people present, and the wind and rain seemed to have dampened the enthusiasm of the eagles we often see there. No sightings. A few buffeted gulls were skimming the surf, performing admirable manoeuvres.

Still damp

A day off being a day off, wet or not, we weren’t going to let a morning go to waste. We trundled up the beach for a bit, keeping a close eye on the turning tide, and happy that the rain couldn’t water down a decent bar of chocolate. So it was a touch chilly, and a little damp, but overall a good wander along a beach in any weather is bracing, and we felt better for it. Until we got back to the stairs leading off the beach. Did I mention those already?

A testing day…(thanks, Lynn!)

Thanks for reading, this week, and for some, any, or all of the previous six years. Let’s see if we can manage another six… I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

  1. The years pile on, don’t they, but for blogging’s sake, that’s a good thing, so congrats & all the best for another happy half dozen or so. And never hesitate to foot your posts with pictures of those tasty suds!

    1. Raining Ukee champagne?! That would be disappointing (to me, at any rate – there are many Lucky fans locally!)
Stay warm during this cold snap. Check out temps in AB, then you’ll feel warmer!

  2. Another wonderful post, pc, and a hearty congratulations on your six-year anniversary. You got me smiling early on, as you always do, with that rickety staircase and “No padding this week.” Too bad the weather forecast was wrong on your special day off, but kudos for going anyway and enjoying the brace of the damp daze. I am so glad I met you on WP and subsequently in person, and look forward to many more of your crafty posts and adventurous walks. A flavorful and robust toast to you and Mrs. pc and Scout.

    1. Thanks, Jet! The best part of blogging has been connecting with people, and becoming friends. We’d have never met without WP, and the thought of that not happening seems strange. I think that sentence made sense?!
      Enjoy your week!

  3. Congratulations on the blogging anniversary and thanks for sharing the wonderful scenery, adventures and humor!! You would never know by looking at Scout that there was any issue with the weather or climbing and hopefully you’ll have blue skies for the next day off. Hope you left the testing with a few to celebrate Everton’s late goal against Man United! Looking forward to many more years of great stories and the occasional virtual toast! Cheers!!

    1. Thank you! Making friends on here has been the best thing about blogging, and I don’t think I expected that way back when.
Everton not losing in the best possible way was hugely enjoyable. If the team only played for about two minutes of the 90, then it was great they scored three times in those two minutes! I won’t mention Spurs. Oops. Change the subject – Flames won the Battle of Alberta on Saturday! That was enjoyable.
Very cold here, with some sunshine and an outside chance of snow. Not proper snow like you’ve been having, but the children (and some teachers) are desperately hoping for a snow day…
      Have a good week!

  4. Congratulation on the six years. The is much to say about a weekly walk in the woods and I look forward to a weekend reading of your walks, sprinkled with coffee, chocolate and beer. A mighty fine mix. Here’s to another six.

    Cheers.
