It was Spring…

…until it wasn’t!

We took a quick trip to Victoria last weekend, and for the first time in a long cold spell, it felt like Spring. The wind was gusting, but we found a sheltered spot outside a coffee shop, and it was very pleasant to be sitting in warm sunshine contemplating the late turn in the season.

Spring!

The next morning was grey, with a hint of rain in the air. That hint was misleading, because by the time we were heading back on the Malahat Highway, the rain had turned to snow, and snow was our intermittent companion all the way home.

Spring?!

Monday promised a touch of Spring. Without knowing it, I captured a stunning image of a hummingbird – I think the image below speaks for itself, and certainly shows how attentive I can be to the local wildlife.

Hummingbird – or smudge on lens?

Did Spring stick around, with a slow yet steady increase in temperatures? No. More snow, rain, hail, sleet, and fifteen seconds of sunshine has been the week since Monday morning. Very happy we won’t have to worry about melting Easter eggs this coming weekend…

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

  1. Love the latte art and great shot of the hummingbird!! We’ve had a very similar spring with more snow forecast for next week and wind advisories every other day. It now appears that kayak season will begin in May. Wonderful to see the city scenes and the return to enjoying your favorite beverage at the brewpub. Counting down the days to the Stanley Cup playoffs and hopefully a Toronto/Calgary final. Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Thank you! The spring weather was good while it lasted. Now it is winter again, or almost, it seems too soon to be looking forward to the Flames sputtering out. Yup, hopes are high in this household…

  2. I am always up for Spring with the cleansing rains and sunny days! That barista sure did a fine pattern on the top of the Latte and did not miss the pun in Hoppy brews. Even a glimpse of a hummingbird brings me joy. good luck with continuing unpacking and settling into your new home. May Scout’s nose be satiated with a plethora of interesting new smells.

    1. Thanks, Jane! Seen a few hummingbirds lately, so that’s been fun. Scout is decidedly content with all the trails being a little closer to home!
Hope you’re enjoying the Easter weekend, and that you get some Spring showers and sunny days soon!
