Bienvenue à Quebec!

We kept heading east, sad to see Ontario fall behind in the rear view mirror (already planning for a return trip – that beautiful backcountry) but what’s this ahead? Quebec? Why, yes, yes it is! Bienvenue à Quebec! For now we’re taking some time to slow down after quite a long road trip, for what we hope will be an extended stay. (We will continue east at some point in the future, part of our wooly notion that we should, as fairly new young Canadians, explore as much as we can…)

A wonderful welcome! (Photo by Mrs. PC)

Road trips are great – I enjoy the planning almost as much as the actual trip – but stopping awhile is also good. Planning spontaneity isn’t easy…

“A cabin?! Yeah, let’s stop here!”

A little cabin just outside Quebec City is set to be home for a few weeks. A base to unwind, unpack and head out to enjoy the museums, art galleries, and history – all the great culture of an amazing region. (Perhaps a warning here: what follows may not meet some cultural expectations…)

History (family history – Mrs. PC was a Frampton before PCdom) The owners feigned interest…

Let’s move on from history to some highbrow artwork:

Pou-pou! Snigger…(I do actually like the label artwork, and the beer was great!)
Scout here, readers! Sorry about Old PC’s puerile sense of humour. Personally, I love it here; the old buildings, lovely statues, and grand squares… I’ll try and encourage OPC to grow up and write something more akin to his age and not his shoe size for next time!

Puerile?! Let’s pretend over excitement was the cause, and next time I’ll see if I can measure up to Scout’s higher standards. Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

(But c’mon… allez pou-pou! Mrs PC laughed as well…)

“Can we not just enjoy where we are, and appreciate the culture? Someone, please, make him stop!”

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

    1. Hi Kelly! Not this summer/fall – family south of the border here and a Euro trip has us (over?) busily scheduled – but next year is looking good for getting east of east…
      Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Thanks, Walt! We’ve had a warm and sunny weekend, and took the opportunity to enjoy one or two more new brews on deck – very pleasant late spring days!
I hope your week is off to a good start!

  1. I love those old buildings especially in Quebec city. That is a lot of driving, so gather you took bathroom breaks when needed or Mrs PC and Scout will be at you! Nice that you are staying in a cabin for a while, I look forward to photos of the cabin and environment. Are you managing to avoid the smoke?

    1. Thanks, Jane! Yes, plenty of breaks for all of us!
Old Quebec City is an easy place to hang out in when the sun shines, very pleasant. Our cabin is a simple camping cabin – two beds, table and chairs, and a small fridge. A step up from a tent in the rain…
We had one smoky day, and I think the run of midweek showery weather eased things a little overall – not too sure things are as steady in the west?
Take care, and enjoy your week!

      1. The smoke ebbs and flows. The Edson and area fire is the size of Edmonton and Calgary combined, but firefighters working their butts off to keep it from entering the town and the highway is closed.

  2. This trip just keeps getting better (referring to the destination and not the childish humor)!!😁 What a fabulous place to unwind, enjoy the city life and sample one or two great beers. Love the label and I’m already looking forward to the Tour de France. After watching Man City finish their amazing season, I might finally try to watch our Major League Soccer now that Beckham has persuaded Messi to join. Maybe he could persuade Kane!!! Scout looks like she’s having a fabulous vacation! Looking forward to seeing more of Quebec and hope Mrs. PC is ready to take over some of the commentary!😁

    1. Thank you! I’m not dropping her in it, but it was Mrs. PC laughing the most (and first) at allez pou- pou. Not that I needed much encouragement…
Kane to Miami? Now that would be something!
More Quebec and more new beers to follow – the plan is to be here long term, assuming all the detailed planning and timing works out…
      Enjoy the week ahead!

    1. Mrs. PC says hi, and Scout says it’s too hot in the afternoons, but she perks up come evening. Or if there’s food, so she’s all good!
We’re liking Québec and intend to stick around – there’s more to this trip than we’ve been letting on…
