A pinch of cold and dash of colour? Sounds like a recipe for early winter…
It has been the coldest week of the season so far, and, for the first time, we could feel the cold pinching, almost painful, on our earlyish morning walks. After a dull and rainy (in parts) weekend, it was good to get a light dusting of snow followed by cold and bright days. Yes, frigid enough to find “proper” gloves and toque, and to dig out the thermals. Not for now, those thermals, but soon, very soon…
We’ve been into the old town as well as the woods, and earlier this month had fun in and around Old Quebec, showing a friend some of the sights on their first visit. They thought it was so cold, whereas we thought it was almost warm – still above freezing and sunny!
To keep warm, we focused on food and drink (stores, bars, and restaurants) in between roaming some of the more photogenic streets. In the end, I think we spent more time eating and drinking than we did walking – great fun!
I’ll keep it brief as Scout is nosing me toward the door – maybe she can already smell the snow we’ve been promised this week? Or maybe she thinks I could do with an extra walk or two after all the recent eating and drinking…

Everything in moderation – so we moderated the walking and got on with less moderate eating and drinking. We’re a work in (slow) progress…
Thanks, Miriam! Been away in UK last little while (got back home to so much snow, only just dug ourselves out) and now catching up on whatever I’ve missed on WP! The snow shoveling is keeping us warm for sure!

Love the Almost Freezing and Sunny photo!!🙂 We might finally be joining you in the cold and snowy weather by the end of the weekend, which means I might finally need to wear a coat out on the trails. It’s been nice to have hoodie season last so long. Another goal for Kane and let’s hope Everton begins a winning streak to get out of relegation! Enjoy the weekend!🙂

Thank you! Since those photos were taken, it’s been quite snowy… I’m hoping if we’re snowed in, I’ll be spending the winter watching another Everton great escape! Seems to be one step forward, then two back, but we’ll see…

My question is this: How hard (or easy) is it to negotiate your way around Quebec with a VERY limited knowledge of French? I know most countries are more bilingual than us ‘Mericans.

Hi Bob! I’d say not too difficult at all – Montreal is more bilingual than Quebec City, but due to Old Quebec City etc. tourism is a big part of the economy here. If you’ve even a limited knowledge of French (hello, goodbye, how are you, please, thanks and getting a coffee or beer) negotiating your way around is no problem.
Come on up sometime, and I’ll demonstrate how my dredged up from school French somehow gets me by. I’d get us a beer at any rate…

I’m glad you and friends had a good visit over food and drinks. I’m seriously looking at weather trying to decide if I should visit old Quebec got a few day. My over night bag is packed just got to get the nod from the weathernetwork, roads will be safe.

Thanks, Walt! It’s been mostly snow ever since -and particularly while we were away and on our return. So much snow… I’m looking forward to seeing some snow-shovelling muscles appear…

I have lost track of time after being hit with a bug for a few days, but on the mend. Brrrrr. You did a great job of expressing the winter that has set in in your neck of the woods, pc. I liked how you and Mrs. PC and your friends had such different ideas of the same temps. Sounds like a wonderful time you all had together and beautiful landscapes too. Cheers.
