The snow no show season continues…

…and, fortunately, you’ve not been able to hear me complain about it! But I have been, don’t you worry!

We’d planned, overconfidently as it turned out, to be spending the past week or two on snowshoes or skis, enjoying the thrill of a Quebec winter. That hasn’t happened – yet!

Scout earlier this week, enjoying the thrills of a Quebec winter. Look at that snow!

Going for glass half full, I can be excited all over again if and when proper winter returns. I hope that is soon, because as much as I like mince pies and beer, we might be approaching the point where I can’t see my feet or be able to reach down to said skis… I’m becoming a contender for Santa employment next year if things don’t change. Ho ho ho.

More than half full!

So as 2023 meanders to a slightly grey/green and no snow end, I’ll sign off for this year by thanking you for taking the time to read and comment on this blog. It’s always a delight to know that thoughts are being shared and we’re not going slightly mad all alone as the world takes a few strange turns.

Bye bye 2023

Wishing you all the very best for 2024! Who knows, perhaps the flat earthers, election deniers, populists and other assorted liars will come to their senses in the next twelve months? You have to hope… and in the meantime, there are outdoor concerns and pursuits to follow while we still can! Let’s get out there (just have to finish this mince pie…)

Soon?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

    1. Made me laugh, Jane! No real snow yet, not enough to go and play, but maybe the next week or two…
Hope your week is off to a good start – all the best to you for the year ahead!

  1. I’m not complaining of no snow. I like getting out for a walk on dry ground. Looks like cold is settling in on January 1st. Best wishes for 2024. Cheers

  2. No snow for you and no summer for me! It’s been a strange season here in Australia where it’s normally hot right now. All we can do is say cheers to whatever comes next and simply make the most of it! Take care and all the very best for 2024.

    1. I hope summer is making an appearance for you soon, Miriam! Much colder here now, so we’re crossing fingers for some decent snow to go out and play!
Wishing you all the best for the year ahead!

  3. We had a wonderful morning of sleet before the fog arrived again!! I keep telling everyone winter is cancelled, but only Harper pretends to be listening to me. Between what’s going on in the world and the political chaos and election this year, it probably won’t be a surprise to you that I’m beginning the year with a pessimistic empty glass and the optimism only sets in if it’s empty because I ran out of wine. The beer art has been fabulous on the East Coast and cheers to you and Mrs. PC for a Happy New Year!!🍻🙂

    1. Given what might happen, I’d keep the glass topped up, if only for medicinal purposes…
Here’s wishing you a great year ahead and a suitably stocked cellar! (Beer consumption might go up here if Everton don’t get back to winning ways – it all fell apart the last three or four games!)

  4. Yeah, I guess I’m like those in this snowless northern region looking at the prospects of the new year with a glass half-empty. Luckily, I can dispel that feeling of emptiness when looking at the political & social world around me by heading for the pantry & a full can or bottle of Stout or IPA to help create an illusive, fuller picture of the days ahead, if only for a little while. I’m sure you understand. Well, thank you for another great year of OPC, and we wish you & yours all the best for a creative & fun-filled year ahead.

    1. Here’s wishing you a well stocked pantry and plenty of outdoor adventures to keep the other stuff somewhat at bay… I’m always happy to see a new piece appear on RR, so no pressure but keep ‘em coming Walt!
