So close!

To spring! There have been one or two days this past week where the air has felt almost warm, with a softness or mildness that is more than just strong sunshine on a cold winter day. Yes, I think spring might be right around the corner! (Let’s ignore the forecast for tomorrow – Thursday, at the time of writing – where it’s likely we’ll delight in a high of 1C and somewhere between 5-10 cm of snow. Nothing more than a seasonal blip…)

Seasonal (luckily, the maple wasnt too strong a flavour)

In recent days we’ve enjoyed a cup of coffee or two on the deck, wavering between do we need a jacket – yes we do – and/or we don’t really need a jacket, do we – yes, you really do. Give it another week or three, and maybe then lose the jackets.

There has been a steady increase in birdsong, along with the almost ceaseless sound of snowmelt and surface water dripping from roof tops and gurgling into drains. The edges of gradually reappearing grassy areas are showing just a hint or two of green as the sunshine melts the last of the ice banks.

Seasonal blip, maple drip

Goodness, have we time to finish the Easter chocolate before finding time to start cutting the lawn? (Lawn? Steady on, OldPlaidCamper – I think small patch of grass is closer to the mark. Lawn…)

What grass?

I’ll leave it here for now, feeling optimistic about spring as we look past the next few days towards a weekend and beyond that promises something positively balmy. In the meantime, where’s that jacket? And, oh no, the snow shovels?

What snow?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

  1. It’s been quite a bumpy roller-coaster ride from winter into spring here in our neck of the woods, but yes, real springtime looks to be close at hand, and so well symbolized by those metal sap buckets hanging in the maple woods! Nice job, as always, Mr. PlaidCamper. And cheers to an excellent weekend for you all.

  2. Crazy we got 15 cm of heavy wet snow between yesterday and this morning. I fish-tailed up the driveway after removing Mt winter tires on Wednesday.

  3. Maybe don’t lose those jackets just yet though it does sound as though Spring is inching closer. Love those blue skies, decidedly lacking here at the moment in Vietnam despite the humidity. Cheers and have a great weekend Adam. 🤗

    1. They were off for a few days, but as of this morning, back on again! It is warming up here, I swear it is, but not quickly…
I hope you’re seeing at least a little sun and some blue skies out there, Miriam!

  4. The weather is still playing with our sense of humour in our part of the world as well. Some days are no jacket weather, and some days it is snowing like crazy. My plan was to put up a new fence around my garden this weekend, to protect it from the abundance of deer, but it is going ot have to wait a little longer.

  5. Those snowy photos scream it’s jacket weather and love the seasonal captions!!😁 I would still try to talk Mrs. PC into a lovely large garden and skip the lawn. Finally dragged our deck furniture out this weekend and Harper happily let the squirrels know she’s back on patrol. After two more episodes of 3 Body Problem I had to switch to sports for the weekend and managed to miss 3 goals flipping between Kane and Everton, but did manage to see your team win and mine lose. Hopefully you have a warmer week and blue skies for the eclipse tomorrow!!😎

    1. Thank you! We had a warm and sunny day, and enjoyed the partial eclipse here.
Yes, an Everton win – it was the ugliest of ugly wins, and then, what do we have? – another points deduction! Staying in the division looking very difficult, as if it wasn’t already!
Rainy days for the next little while here – it’ll be good for the “lawn”!
I hope your week is going well.
(Kane and Bayern against Arsenal was quite the game – part two next week!)

  6. I loved your wintry photos and optimistic words, pc. It seems to me your spring is right around the corner and quite perfect because you can sit and eat chocolate and drink yummy beers and not feel guilty about mowing the lawn that hasn’t peeked out of the snow yet. Cheers, dear friend.

    1. All being well, I think those were the last words and photos on winter (until Oct/Nov – fingers crossed!) and we’re definitely in spring now. Some almost warm days and grass that’ll need our attention in the next little while. We’re giving that some thought as we sit on the deck with a coffee, pretending it is a warmer day than it actually is…
Thanks, Jet, and I hope you’re enjoying spring on the west coast!
