As I write this (Wednesday) it is snowing! I love winter and I love snow, but it is late April now and we wouldn’t mind an escape. We’re making plans, and they mostly feature a tent. Next month? In a tent? We’re quite intent on seeing it happen. Oh dear…

Hard to believe, but yesterday we were in shirtsleeves on the deck drinking our morning coffee. To be fair, snow aside, we could do that every morning if we really wanted to. So many food and drink pieces the last few weeks. Coffee on the deck this week, the two in a row prison and food stories told here the past couple of weeks, and now this one is called Escape plans – do we have a third prison tale? (And a broken promise?)

No no! Late winter cabin fever, that’s all. I’m stuck. The walls are closing in! No more prison stories this week, not after two weeks. Instead, let’s escape, break out (stop it, PlaidCamper) and make a run for it, to the woods. They’ll never find us there…

Yes, we have had enough dry days for the ground to be less soggy and make walking in the woods a more or less everyday event – until the mosquitoes hatch. Scout has been very pleased by our woodland return, and it’s been an effort to keep up with her.

Of course we had to check in with the trolls. The ground had been trampled all about, but no sign of the trolls themselves. Sensibly, they keep out of sight, not wanting the publicity. It’s bad enough I take pictures of their house. That is bad of me, since trolls must be an endangered species – after all, have you ever seen one? (I don’t mean the trolls that, mentally or literally, have never left the parental home, and are living in the basement, sad little things, fighting culture wars and being aggrieved ‘cos, oh I don’t know, bathrooms and toilets are binary/non binary or gendered or some sh*t – honestly, keyboard warriors, do you think a toilet even cares if you’re non-dangly/dangly? There’s so much going on and wrong in the world, but our brave culture warriors want to fight about potty time and get offended that a s/he/they person is using the “wrong” bathroom. Ok…)

Tangent alert! Oops! Too late. Instead, let’s pretend I care enough about forest trolls to pretend to go along with the story they aren’t real. (Huh?!) So, they aren’t real, and they don’t live in a stone house in the woods behind us. Forget I mentioned them. And forget all the dangly stuff. And, I don’t know, maybe forget this entire post? It must be the cabin fever talking – let’s get out of here. Quite potty. I should go now. To the bathroom? Oh dear…

A brief post this week since I can’t talk about trolls or prison. Or bathrooms. It’s like I’ve been shackled. It’s definitely time to make an escape!
Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Wow, that snow, (eastern coasters call poor man’s fertilizer) has you kerfuffled. Should be the last of it, though no planting till moon in June my sister always says. Nothing but summer and mosquitoes and black flies a head of us. Hope you have a great escape weekend. Cheers.

Ha, poor man’s fertilizer! I’ll pretend it’s good for the garden…
To be fair, it has warmed up somewhat since then, almost like spring! I’ve almost stopped whining…
Thanks, Kelly, and I hope your week is off to a good start!

Thank you. Cool nights warm afternoons here lots of sun. Some worry of fire season. We need rain. Have a great weekend

Sounds like you need a good dose of sunshine, a large outdoor camping adventure with no mozzies and a few shots of coffee and beer. Scout clearly thinks the same too, especially the camping part. Have a good weekend Adam and cheers and chin up from a cold grey Australian April. 🙃

Thanks, Miriam! I’ve given myself the proverbial kick up the arse, and the attitude is improving – along with the weather! Will be camping soon enough, coffee and beer to hand…
I hope is well with you and you’re happy to be back and feeling better!

Oh how disappointing it is to get snow in late April. Once you’ve had a few delightful mornings in the sun on the deck, it is cruel to have to revert back to snow. hopefully this is the last one and warm days will return again soon. Meanwhile, that is a fantastic tree with all the shelf mushrooms. Cheers, pc, and sending a big smile your way.

Thanks, Jet! Some days I’m never happier than when I’m being a miserabilist! (I think that’s a word?)
Anyway, I’ve bucked up my ideas, and, at much the same time the weather improved, so did my outlook. Funny, that…
I hope all is well with you and your week is off to a good start!

The grand escape cometh shortly, Adam, and I see that you & Scout are totally psyched for it. Bliss shall fall across the land like a ray of warming sunshine till, of course, it too shall pass– perhaps for heat & blackflies or for more pathetic news emanating from the war zones or the ludicrous American political scene. Enjoy it while you can, and have a great weekend!

Thanks, Walt! Back on track, more or less, after my usual April wobble. Yup, we’ll be out there soon enough (and I’ll be cursing the blackflies and enjoying doing so) and far from the madding news cycles…
I hope all is well with you!

After the three weeks of prison themes, you’ve definitely convinced us you have cabin fever and we hope for the sake of Scout and Mrs. PC that you have an early summer!!😁 Thank god someone else is on a tangent or ranting, I can’t make it through a day without a few rants and sometimes I feel like too many people have given up. I know I’ve said it before, but I am just stunned daily when I watch the news. I should say read the news, I can barely watch news programs anymore. Love the photos of Scout and hope the snow and rain stays away for coffee time on the deck!☕️😎

Good thing we’ve had a sunny day or two since that was written! Plus, Everton! And I’ve been ignoring the news beyond headlines only. So it’s back to being Mr Sunny Disposition. Maybe not quite that…
Looks like Jets and Leafs have some work to do, but Canucks (gritted teeth here) doing well, and Oilers (grrr) also! Still Bruins to win the whole thing.
I hope your week is off to a good start – with kayaking good to go soon?

I have seen numerous fungi on a tree, but usually tiny ones. these ones managed to grow a little. To me, they are pretty. I see that Jet calls them shelf Mushrooms. I never knew that. Well! Yes, about that weather…

The fungi was quite a find, happy to see them. Less happy to see the snow, but we’ve had an improvement since then with a couple of sunny days. Maybe spring is really here now?!
Hope it’s warming up there, Jane, and you’ll have more chances to be out photographing the birds this week – loved your latest shots!

We got to have those escape plans! I keep mine alive by visiting my garden all year round. I know it probably sounds little crazy but I can “feel” the summer there even when the snow reaches up to my thighs in the middle of the winter.

That’s a good attitude! I do well in “proper” winter, really like it, along with the other seasons – I find the shoulder seasons that are not quite anything (even though they are what they are) a struggle. No patience, but working on it!
I hope your week is going well!
