If we’re looking ahead with a sense of optimism, then in terms of light and dark we’ve tipped towards the former having passed the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere. Spring has arrived!
Well, sort of… Scout and I enjoyed a lazy hour with that all important second cup of coffee on a sunny deck yesterday morning. Birds were singing, we could hear the tapping of a busy woodpecker in the nearby woods, a fly or two buzzed past, and there was the steady drip, trickle and gurgle of snowmelt from roof tops down drainpipes and along pathways. So, it is spring then – why only sort of, OPC?
The deck may be clear (for now) but the grassy parts of our back yard are yet to reveal themselves, and the medium range forecast suggests another bout or three of snow. Still, until those last blasts of northern winter arrive, we’ll take a sunny almost spring morning each time we’re treated to one! Vernal if not yet verdant, with our glass, oops, too early, I mean coffee cup half full and all that. Onwards!

Sounds like spring is definitely on the way, PC. I loved your description with the singing birds, tapping woodpecker, buzzing flies and more. And ahhhh there is nothing like sunshine penetrating the body after a long winter. Wonderful post and equinox cheers to you and Mrs. PC for a lovely spring ahead.

Scout’s attempt at napping in the sun reflects my own approach to spring this season: taking it slowly hour by hour, soaking up whatever looks to be a sign (cardinal and robin song, a blade of grass here a sprouting crocus there), kind of thankful to have come the winter and the first four months of you-know-who(s). May the blooming springtime be a great one for you guys!

Yes, a few happy signs here and there – although, winter has returned with a few more blasts of snow just now. That’s a northern spring, reliably unreliable!

Seeing Scout relaxing in the sun helps me think that spring might arrive one of these days! Crazy day of weather here yesterday, the ice was still melting off the trees as the thunderstorms arrived and stayed around until midnight. Harper might have set a record shaking. Hope you will be enjoying more mornings of coffee on the deck and the end of shoveling season soon!🙂

I hope it’s one of these days sooner rather than later! Snow showers and barely above freezing again today, but the medium term forecast shows signs of spring…
