Prairie sky highs

We’re absolutely loving being out west, traveling under (mostly) big blue skies. We spent a week in Irricana, AB, a tiny town northeast of Calgary, and a sparkling prairie gem. I’ll write more about Irricana another time.

Very spotty internet and an unwillingness to hammer my phone plan have combined to keep this very brief. So here are a few photographs that might give you a prairie high – and it’s legal and chemical-free (assuming ranchers and farmers are doing the right thing…)

Good morning to you!

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! And Happy July 4th to our southern neighbours!

Rockyview County?! (Not in this photo, but on a clear day, you can see the Rockies in the very far distance)
“Can we go to the mountains, cool off?!” Soon, Scout, soon!
This will get you to the mountains – eventually – no rush!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

    1. Thanks, Miriam! Yup, fresh air and big skies all the way for the next little while… and, at some point, our beloved Rockies – nothing better, this side!
I hope you had a great weekend!

  2. I heard from the hosteling association. They are planning to rebuild the Hi Jasper hostel next year. Not sure about the Hi Athabasca and Hi Maligne. I like the beauty of the mountains, prairies, forests, cottage country, from the east to the west.

  3. I truly loved the prairie scenes here, PC. You captured the vast and flat expanses so well. I come from the (U.S.) prairie states and there is nothing like that openness. I’m glad you’re having a wonderful western adventure, or did, maybe home by now? Either way, great fun. Cheers to all 3 of you….

    1. I love those huge spaces – gives a person room to think. Can’t let Scout off leash though, she’d never stop…
I think I’ve said before, no matter how much I treasure these expanses, I’d never cope with repeat winters – tough folks out there, and a hat tip to their resilience. (Hat blows away)
