Elevation!

I’m still not walking any great distances, and certainly nothing with significant elevation gain, but we did take a brief trip into nearby Kananaskis last week. Why? Mountains!

Reaching up

We parked up at what we still call the Delta Lodge (it’s had a makeover or two, a name change and has sometimes hosted the great and not so great and good since we last stayed there – looking at you, G7 1/2) and trotted off at a brisk pace – well, Scout and Mrs. PC managed a brisk pace – to take a turn around the hotel perimeter walk. Hmm, that last one was a messy sentence. Oh well. Let’s look at a photo.

Things are looking up…

If one has reduced or restricted mobility, then this is a place to come and see many mountains from an already elevated perspective. The pathway is paved and mostly flat. You’re above the river (the Evan Thomas Creek that flows through the golf course and beyond) and beneath the tallest peaks, and it is spectacular! We were quite dizzy…

Dizzy

We couldn’t believe how quiet it was, visitor-wise, and sat on a bench eating our lunch with no more than a few passersby. The sun was warm but not too warm just like our cheese sandwiches, and it felt like a very pleasant way to return to a favourite spot. We aim to be back in the not too distant future and venture down some of the very inviting trailheads we passed heading back to the truck!

“We were snowshoeing last time I was here! Can we do that again?!” Soon enough, Scout, soon enough! (Photo: Mrs. PC)

Let’s leave it here for this week – dizzily optimistic! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Not a pale ale? Almost earned this one

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

  1. What a gorgeous place! I grew up in the mountains and I miss them every day. I keep thinking if I should move back one day, but perhaps it would be challenging?

    1. We’re about 45 minutes driving to the foothills, and ten more minutes after that to get into “big” mountains – just about right! I can understand how you’d miss living in or close to the mountains – never say never?!

  2. Ahhh, the glory of the west–the Rockies. I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend, pc, and finding places in the mountains to take in the beauty. Sending big smiles and healing wishes to you.

  3. Those mountains are spectacular. I’m sure soon enough you’ll be back walking the trails Adam and taking in all that beauty some more. In the meantime, take care and have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks, Miriam! Little by little, but goodness, my slow pace is testing my patience! In the meantime, day trips and short walks it is (and a three night trailer trip coming up very soon in a near mountain environment – can’t really complain!)

  4. Love the dizzily optimistic vibes and those gorgeous mountains!! How wonderful it had paths available to enjoy why you recuperate and those you can look forward to enjoying again with Scout and Mrs. PC. I don’t know if you monitor your steps, but recently when I began counting steps again I found out very quickly that the total number of steps didn’t matter anymore compared to knowing how many it’s going to take to get back to the car. Luckily Harper has dragged me back to the car a few times. Take care and it’s wonderful to go from the charm of Quebec back to the mountains!! Enjoy the weekend and loved the photos!!🙂

    1. Thank you! Haha, yes, there’s been a bit of “best turn back now!” to get back to the car! As for counting steps, haven’t done that for a while – generally, two dog walks always used to do it, as long as each was 45 minutes or so. Not quite there yet, but getting closer. The mountain trails are my incentive…
Oh god, why did I watch Everton earlier?! The new season optimism has gone already!

    1. No, not an injury, just an unpleasant infection that knocked me down for the best (worst
?!) part of a month, and it as has taken weeks to recover. Very weak compared to my normal, but getting some miles back in my legs little by little…
In the meantime, short trips to the mountains, so all good really!
I hope your week is off to a good start!
