Sunny spells, sunny spells…

I’ve been trying a new mantra, and with the power of positive thought, it’s going to work. Of course, it’ll have to be brief.D4225C4B-854F-4C3F-B956-43FB7509EA98

After a few days this week where the rain was heavy, we’ve been promised sunny spells for the coming weekend. I’ve quite enjoyed the rain, and the fog rolling in late afternoons after the deluge. Very atmospheric, apart from when I left my rain jacket in the car yesterday, and I got absolutely soaked in the thirty seconds it took to dash out and get my jacket because I didn’t want to get wet. Won’t be making that mistake again. It’s hard to look credible advising students that yes, they absolutely must have their rain coats on before heading out, because it is sensible to do so, when you’re dripping rainwater on the floor…

“I always remember my coat!”

Sunny spells, sunny spells. As usual, I haven’t much enjoyed following the news. We’ve family in the US and UK, and the combined leadership deficits displayed by government in each place has left us quite despondent. All that noise and self serving nonsense. It’s exhausting to read about, and must be so much worse to experience. Throw in the recent dreadful antics on display from the nationalist visitor to France, and all I can say is what a relief it has been to get outdoors and take a few – many – deep breaths. Sunny spells, sunny spells.

A sunny Indignant Cove

It was mostly dry and fairly warm last weekend, so we wandered out and about, including a pleasant couple of hours at Indignant Cove soaking up some sun. Sunshine and shirtsleeves in November? Very welcome, and we’re making the most of these days with sunny spells, because the rains are coming…but please, not before Monday! Actually, I’ll take time outside, including with heavy rain, because even if you’ve forgotten your coat, or you catch a chill (however that works) it’s still a sunnier prospect than catching the latest headlines.

Rain, later…

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend, full of sunny spells, sunny spells!

I am a would be outdoorsman - that is if I had more time, skills and knowledge. When I can, I love being outdoors, just camping, hiking, snowboarding, xc skiing, snowshoeing, paddling a canoe or trying something new. What I lack in ability, I make up for in enthusiasm and having a go. I'd never really survive for long out there in the wild, but I enjoy pretending I could if I had to...

      1. I am safe and well but close as the crow flies, 37 miles from Paradise and about 25 from the parameters of the fire. I have a friend who lost everything. We have been socked in by all the smoke. We feel very close to the area burned, been bummed out but that is normal. We are due for rain but along with that comes landslides and more misery for the fire evacuees. Geez, totally Debbie Downer here, sorry about that. At least Trump left and is back in DC!! Lol cheers!

    1. Thanks, Walt! I hope you’re right and there’s light at the end of these strange political tunnels…
In the meantime, I also hope you’ve been enjoying a great weekend, indoors and out!

  1. Really enjoyed this post, pc, your resolve to be sunny, the freshness of the outdoors, the things that go on in a deluge. Funny quote from Scout, gave me a good chuckle. I’ve been thinking about you with the turmoil of the laughed-out Brexit plan, and can imagine the despondency it creates for you and others. Personally, I like looking at the sunny side of things, it makes the deluges less traumatic. Warm smiles to you and Mrs. pc, my friend…and that clever Scout too.

    1. Thanks, Jet! Your sunny attitude is the one to have, and we generally aim to be positive, enjoying sunny spells and a glass half full. Scout has us smiling every day. Politics aside, many are struggling with very real day-to-day problems, like you and Athena and your friends and neighbours with the ongoing difficulties from wildfires, so we know we’re pretty fortunate to say the least.
I hope you get the necessary rain and then calm days in the very near future.

  2. I enjoyed you trying to cast a sunny spell on these very strange political times around the world, With our dismal headlines (many that leave me shaking my head in disbelief) the sunshine and beautiful photos are appreciated. Hopefully our blue wave was a good beginning, but after another gray day I wish the wave had brought along some blue skies. Loved the photo of Scout and caption and hope you enjoyed a dry weekend!

    1. Thank you! Yes, the news is often strange and not that cheery, recent blue wave excepted…
We’ve been fortunate once again this weekend, with sunny skies and a few moderate blue waves at the shore – I’m confident this extended mostly sunny period will be ending soon, and the autumnal PNW will emerge!
I don’t know if you’re following the international football in Europe, but England enjoyed a win over their close rivals Croatia, offering some solace after losing to them back in the summer! (And Kane scored!)

  3. Couldn’t agree more PC. Rainy spells, sunny spells, even time with ones arm in a cast is preferable to some of the headlines lately. Lovely photos as usual 🙂
